List of provinces in Indonesia and their capitals

Indonesia currently officially has 38 provinces and their capitals which are divided into various regions ranging from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, to Papua.

Previously, the government had added a new province as a result of the expansion of the Papua region, namely the establishment of the Southwest Papua province as the 38th province in Indonesia according to Law Number 29 of 2022.

On November 11, 2022, the government also inaugurated the establishment of three new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua, namely South Papua Province, central Papua province, and mountainous Papua province.

The expansion of provinces in Indonesia or autonomous regions is one of the efforts for equitable development with the aim of improving people’s welfare.

Each province has a capital that is the center of government and administration. With the addition of several new provinces, here is a list of 38 provinces in Indonesia and their capitals:
