DKI Jakarta Provincial Government-Melaka State Government inaugurates Melaka Gallery

The provincial government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta through the Department of Culture in cooperation with the Melaka State Government, Malaysia, inaugurated the Melaka Jakarta Gallery at The Jakarta History Museum, Kota Tua area, west Jakarta, on Saturday.

“Hopefully (Galeri Melaka) can increase the visit of the people of Melaka to Jakarta. Hopefully, the cooperation that has been built will continue to be established and increasingly expand to other fields and wider activities in the future,” said Head of The Jakarta Historical Museum Management Unit, Esti Utami, in a written statement received on Saturday.

Esti explained that the cooperation between the management Unit of The Jakarta Historical Museum and the Melaka Museum Corporation actually began during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In these difficult times, the UP manager of The Jakarta Historical Museum continues to try to remain present to provide education to the community,” said Esti.

Then in 2022, Esti added, The Melaka Museum Corporation proposed promotional cooperation between the two cities by creating a mini exhibition of the Melaka Gallery at The Jakarta History Museum and The Jakarta Gallery at one of the museums in Malacca.

“The Jakarta Department of Culture welcomes and appreciates the creation of the Melaka Gallery at The Jakarta History Museum. It is hoped that this gallery will become one of the promotional media, especially for the people of Jakarta to get to know more about Melaka so that it can have an impact on the increasing visits of Indonesian people, especially Jakarta to Melaka, ” he said.

Meanwhile, Malacca State Secretary, Datuk Wira Zaidi Bin Johari appreciated the close working relationship between DKI Jakarta and the Melaka State Government that has been going on for a long time.

“Indonesia and Malaysia share some of the same traditions and values. The similarity or even similarity of each cultural product occurs due to the adjacent geographical area and also the similarity of the Malay ethnic group that inhabits almost the entire territory of these two countries, ” he said.

Datuk Wira Zaidi Bin Johari also hopes that the cooperation between Jakarta and Melaka can continue to be established to continue the tourism promotion of both countries and their respective cities.

“I also invite all Indonesian residents, especially Jakarta to come to Melaka, because in 2024 is the year to visit Melaka, there are 80 programs throughout 2024,” he said.

Housed in the Main Hall Of The Jakarta History Museum, Galeri Melaka Jakarta provides information about the history, art and culture and Ethnography of Melaka.

In addition to exhibiting replicas of a number of historical buildings in the city of Melaka, this gallery also introduces tourist attractions in Melaka such as the museum, Melaka River, Taming Sari Tower, Melaka Zoo, Crocodile Park, Peranginan Beach and many other interesting places that can be visited.
